Stanley E. Moraski, Sr.

Stanley E. Moraski, Sr., 85, of Winchester, CT, passed away Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his family.  He was the beloved husband of Lois (Gabelmann) Moraski for 59 years.

The youngest of 9 children, Stan was born December 20, 1929, in Winsted, CT, son of the late Mitchel and Margaret (Zaleski) Moraski.  He served his country with the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.  Among his awards and decorations that he received upon his Honorable Discharge were the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Service Medal.  During his military service, he would often times sneak away for a little shuteye, earning him the nickname 'Racktime USA'.  He was employed by SCASCO as an Accountant, for 25 years, until his retirement in 1992.   He was an avid vegetable gardener and a UCONN Husky Girl’s Basketball fan.

In addition to his wife, Lois, he is survived by one daughter, Gayle Moraski of Winchester, CT; one son, Dr. Stanley Moraski, Jr. and his wife Suzi of Canton, CT; one brother, Dr. Alfred C. Moraski of Florida;  a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carl and Janice Gablemann of Norfolk, CT; three grandchildren, Kendall, Sasha and Matthew Moraski.  In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his siblings Frank, Henrietta, Vita, Martin and Irene.

Stosh was a gentle giant of a man and was thought of as a true hero by his children and grandchildren.  The life lessons he wished to pass on he did through his actions:  He was an extremely hard worker, a true family man and an excellent provider for his family.  He derived much pleasure in watching his children pursue their passions, first by driving throughout New England so his son could compete in the sport of triathlons.  Later he would help his daughter in some of her many community service activities, serving as a volunteer in the very successful Tour of the Litchfield Hills.  He will be sorely missed by those who loved him.  The hole we have in our hearts due to his sudden passing will be very difficult to fill in.

He will be remembered most for always being there when needed.  Throughout his children's lives, when they had successes, he would stand back and take no credit.  When they had failures, he was by their side.  What more could one ask of a father?

Private funeral services have been entrusted to Cook Funeral Home, Torrington.  Burial will be at Winchester Center Cemetery, at the convenience of the family.  There are no calling hours.
