Roger E. Broggi

Roger E. Broggi, 84, of Torrington, CT peacefully passed away on Friday, November 25, 2022, at Litchfield Woods. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Fracasso Broggi, on November 4, 2022.  Roger was the son of the late Vittore and Adriana Panicci Broggi.  Roger is survived by a sister, Judith B. LeSage, a nephew, Victor (Kelly)LeSage, two grandnieces, Sydney and Jesse LeSage all of Illinois, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by wife, Rita, several aunts, uncles, cousins, his brother-in-law, Del LeSage, and his best friend, Rico Soliani.

Roger graduated from Torrington High School in 1956 and from the University of Connecticut in 1960 with a BS degree in Civil Engineering.  He was employed by the State of CT Dept of Transportation for 35 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1961.  After retiring from the DOT, Roger enjoyed many years of substitute teaching in surrounding towns.

In 1963 Roger met his future bride, Rita Fracasso, on a blind date.  They were married in June of 1965 and celebrated 57 years together. Roger & Rita enjoyed spending their summer vacations in Cape Cod at many of their favorite B&B’s.

Roger enjoyed sports:  He was a bowler on Dick’s Restaurant’s bowling team.  He was a passionate runner and often seen jogging the streets of Torrington.  He ran many races including the Cape Cod Marathon and was actively involved in organizing the annual Torrington Road Race.  Roger was an umpire for girls’ softball.

When Roger was President of the Torrington Jaycees, he brought back the Soapbox Derby competition.  He was an active member of the Torrington chapter of UNICO National and organized the Brian Piccolo Award for many years.

Roger was always a spiritual and religious person.   He assisted the clergy at St. Peter’s Church in organizing the “Commentators” who did the Readings at Mass.  Roger was a lector for many years.  He was also member of St. Peter Holy Name Society.

Roger’s family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff at Litchfield Woods for the excellent care given to Roger.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday December 5, 2022, at St. Peter Church, (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 99 East Main St., Torrington, CT followed by interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery.  Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Peter Church. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be donated to St. John Paul the Great Academy, 360 Prospect St., Torrington, CT.
