Robert Michael Rylander, affectionately known as Mick, passed away peacefully at home on September 21, 2022, with his loving wife Joni at his side after a courageous battle with a rare leukemia. Mickey was the son of the late Robert and Jeanette Peet Rylander. He was born December 3, 1953, in New Milford, CT and grew up in Torrington. Mick was a loving and devoted father to his son Benjamin and his wife Hannah, of Winchester, Virginia and was looking forward to the arrival of his new granddaughter in January. He is also survived by his son Justin and two grandchildren, Matthew and Shiloh and his stepchildren Corey and Brianna. Mickey also left behind his siblings Jimmy, Steve, Jody, Rich, and Robyn as well as his aunt and uncle Harvie and Karen Peet, his uncle Arnold Peet, his aunt Betty Hart and many cousins.
A graduate of Torrington High School, Class of 1971, Mick worked for Fireman’s Fund Insurance before switching careers to become a member of the Connecticut Judicial Marshals. He retired from this position several years ago and pursued his obsessive love of golf. Mickey was also a gifted harmonica player and a blues enthusiast.
Friends may call at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, from 6-8 pm. The family will hold a private celebration of Mickey’s life. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery, Torrington, CT.
