Richard attended The Gilbert School, and he was a beloved milkman in Winsted and the Northwest Corner for 35 years. Some of his greatest joy was watching Rick and Todd play out with their various bands as well as his and Tracy's shared passion for fishing. Over the years he was part of many bowling teams and really enjoyed his Senior Bowling team at the Laurel Lanes made up of eighty- and ninety-year-old cherished friends.

Known as "Poppy" to his eight grandchildren, he was an avid follower of their many activities in sports, music, dancing and many other activities.
