Maureen V. (Flannelly) Bernard, 73, of Burlington, CT, passed away Sunday, January 19, 2020. She was the beloved wife of Kevin J. Bernard for 52 years.
Maureen was born August 28, 1946, in Jersey City, NJ, the daughter of the late Edward and Eleanor (Laessig) Flannelly. She moved to Parsippany, NJ after she married Kevin and they resided there for more than forty years. She was an elementary school teacher in the Parsippany-Troy Hills School District, until she retired to raise her three children. Maureen was devoted to her family. She was a wonderful cook and loved gathering her family together for holiday meals and special occasions. She loved watching her children, and more recently, her grandchildren, play sports and perform ballet, and she was always their biggest supporter. She was an avid reader, a college basketball fan, a crossword puzzle and trivia enthusiast, and she loved playing games like Liverpool and Rummikub with her family. She looked forward to summer vacations in Wildwood Crest with her sisters and their families, and yearly Broadway musicals with “the girls.” She was a doting grandma, and she cherished every single second with her grandchildren. Maureen was the heart and soul of her entire family – their center – and she was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved, who will deeply miss her, always remember her, and love her forever.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Heather McCoy and her husband Joseph of Torrington, CT, Marnie King and her husband Ryan of Ramsey, NJ, Sean Bernard and his wife Janice of Rockaway, NJ; two sisters, Mary Ellen Henderson of Angola, IN, Sharon Anderson and her husband Michael of Lake Hiawatha, NJ; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Bernard of Lancaster, SC; five grandchildren, Ella and Jack McCoy, Brady, Tristan, and Garrett King; a sixth grandchild, the first Bernard, expected in March of 2020; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, Raymond Bernard and Bill Henderson.
