Lucy (Vedovelli) Marciano

September 27, 1927 — May 21, 2020

Canaan, CT

Lucy (Vedovelli) Marciano, 92, of Torrington, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2020, with her children by her side.  She was the wife of the late Salvatore Marciano.  Lucy was born in Canaan, CT, in a house, on September 22, 1927, the youngest of eight children born to Italian immigrants, Lena and Bortolo Vedovelli.  She was raised in Sheffield, MA, moving to Torrington at the age of 16, where she later married and raised her family.

Lucy was employed by the Torrington Company Excelsior Plant and also NuStars in her later years.  She was a parishioner of St. Peter’s Church and a member of the Holy Rosary Society.

Lucy had a full and beautiful life and was loved by her family and friends.  She had many interests, particularly appreciation of the beauty of nature.   She loved animals and flowers, taking great pride in her gardens.  She especially loved watching the birds in her backyard.  Reading being one of her  favorite past times, her most loved books were those related to nature, flowers and Italy, along with The Holy Bible.

Always fashionable, Lucy enjoyed family gatherings, especially holidays where she prepared all her Italian specialties and instilled many traditions.  She delighted in hosting afternoon tea parties for her friends.  Returning to Sheffield and Great Barrington with her children and riding through the Berkshires for a day of shopping, antiquing and lunch was one of her favorite outings.  She had many dear friends who enriched her life, traveling to different destinations, especially after the loss of her husband.

Lucy is survived by her son, Michael A. Marciano, and wife, Jacqueline, of Burlington, daughter, Joni Molitor, and husband Fran, of Harwinton.

She also leaves her beloved grandchildren, Michele and Aaron, who brought her immeasurable joy, and several nieces and nephews.   She was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters, all of whom she adored.

Lucy lived her life with grace and will be remembered for her kindness and wit, and always being ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. She will be deeply missed.

The family would like to thank Charlotte Hungerford Hospital ER nurses, Dr. Salk, and 5th floor nurses for their compassionate care.

Private graveside services will be held at St. Peter’s Cemetery and have been entrusted to Cook Funeral Home.  A Catholic mass of remembrance will be held at a future date.

A memorial gift may be made in Lucy’s honor to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. (www.stjude.org)
