Loretta (Spiegelhalter) Marinelli

d. March 21, 2022

Torrington, Connecticut

Loretta M. (Spiegelhalter) Marinelli, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away Monday, March 21, 2022, at Geer Village Nursing Center. She was the beloved wife of James Marinelli for 62 years.

Loretta was born August 14th, in Torrington, CT, the daughter of the late Mary (Mele) and Edward Spiegelhalter, Sr. She was a member of the Torrington High School Class of 1958. She was employed by the Torrington Extend -A-Care as a Food Service Supervisor for 35 years, until her retirement. She was a member of the Hospital Institute of Educational Food Service Society.

Loretta was an avid reader, some of her favorites were novels by Ivanka di Felice’s “A Zanny Slice of Italy" series, which were very humorous real-life situations of her living in Tuscany, Italy. Dozens of her novels traveled with Loretta and her husband, always being read, and reread repeatedly. They spent months traveling thru Italy’s Tuscany Region and Molise Campobasso Region, including Sant’Angelo Limosano (Marinelli family domicile) on vacations. Napa Valley, California, and their wineries were another of Loretta’s favorite long term vacation trips.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons James Marinelli, Jr. and his wife Denise “Dee”and Michael Marinelli and his wife Jamie, both of Torrington, CT: two grandchildren, Nicolette Marinelli and Anthony Marinelli, as well as her cousins, Joyce DeAngelo, Audrey Lukens, John Spiegelhalter, Marlene Mele, Greg Mele, Joyce Cahill Gonska, all of Torrington. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jeffrey, and Edward Spiegelhalter. Loretta enjoyed life-long friendships with and will be sorely missed by Debbie Kelmel Costa, Dianne “Bonnie” Preato and Judy Reginatto.

Loretta’s family is very grateful for the care and concerns she received from the physicians, nursing and administration staff at the Smilow Canter Center, the Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, Geer Village Nursing Home, and Litchfield Woods Nursing Home that took such loving care for Loretta during her one-year problematic medical ordeal.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 28, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 99 East Main St., Torrington, CT 06790.
