June 24, 1925 — February 16, 2018

John (Jack) P. Leffingwell, 92, lifelong Torrington resident, passed peacefully February 16, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Torrington June 24, 1925, to Raymond Leffingwell and Irene Cooper, Jack spent his early years in Van, West Virginia. At the age of 15 he returned to Torrington and entered the local trade school to begin his education in his lifelong occupation as a machinist.

Jack was discharged from the Navy in 1946 and returned home to Torrington to marry his sweetheart and partner of 71 years, Emily Corey.  Together they started their successful business, Leffingwell Screw Machine Products, and raised their three children surrounded by family and friends in the Burrville section of Torrington.

Jack   had a great love for the outdoors.  Among his many hobbies were gardening, fishing, hunting and he had a special passion for golf. He was a lifelong member of the Greenwood CC.  He was also a lifelong member of Elks and VFW Post 296.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 71 years Emily, his son and wife, John and Roberta Leffingwell, his daughter and husband, Lynn and Walter Combes and son-in-law, Richard Bredice. He also leaves behind his granddaughter and husband, Sarah and Dan Fernandes and two beautiful great grandchildren, John and Lily Fernandes.

His family would like to thank his loving caregivers; the staff of the fifth floor of Charlotte Hungerford Hospital, the Geer Gardenside staff and the nurses, CNAs of Geer Harmony where he spent his last days. Your kind and compassionate care made this difficult time much easier.
