John J. DeMichiel

John J. DeMichiel, 91, of Torrington, CT, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital.  He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth “Betty” Takacs DeMichiel.

John was born February 6, 1925, in Torrington, CT, son of the late Louis and Clementine (Bona) DeMichiel.  He served his country with the US Army during World War II, honorably discharged during January of 1946.  Upon the awards and decorations he received were the European African Middle Western Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal.  He was employed by the State of Connecticut, Department of Transportation as an Inspector until his retirement.  An avid card player, he was a member of the Sullivan Senior Center, the Knights of Columbus, and the Connecticut State Retired Employees organization.  A communicant of St. Peter Church, he was also a member of the Holy Name Society.

He is survived by one son, Louis DeMichiel (Geoff) of Stratford, CT; two daughters, Rosemary Maxwell (Paul) and Donna DeMichiel, both of Torrington;  one grandson, Mark Robinson, and his wife Aimee of Millville, MA; four great granddaughters, Kellie Ann Maxwell, Makayla, Ava and Lacey Robinson, as well as several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Paul Maxwell.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday May 23, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Church, 107 East Main St., Torrington.   There are no calling hours.  Burial will follow with full military honors accorded at St. Peter Cemetery.
