James Joseph Murphy, better known to his family as Jimmy Joe, was born on May 3rd, 1983, in Waterbury, Connecticut. He passed away unexpectedly on June 19th, 2022.

James is survived by his adorable nine-year-old daughter Ainsley and his boxer pet Luke. Ainsley was James' entire universe and the best "girl dad" anyone could wish for. He is survived by his mother, Amarilis Fox, Torrington and his father James John Murphy, South Carolina. James was the youngest of a household overran with girls. He leaves behind his three eldest sisters, Arelis Santiago, and her husband Rudy Santiago, Nelvis Santiago and her husband Roberto Santiago Jr as well as his youngest sister Denise Pinera, all from Torrington. He leaves behind his uncles Johnny Murphy and his wife Wanda of South Carolina, Sam Bagley of Texas, His aunts Mercedes Bagley of Torrington, and Mary Murphy of Waterbury, and several more. James was an uncle to an abundance of nieces and nephews whom all looked up to their uncle. Aaron, Roberto, Ama, Drew, Rudy, William, Reyna, Joshua, Marissa, Alycia, Cassandra, Alexis, Logan and two great nephews, Jayden, and Lorenzo. Lastly his cousins Tatum, Morgan, Matthew, Lauren, Daniel, Aladio, Yomira, Yami, Tina, Rodney, Darcel and many more.

James was a well-educated man: a graduate of the University of Central Connecticut with a Master of Science and Health Administration as well as a Bachelor of Science. His thrive for achieving these degrees led to his career in health administration and striving to improve the wellbeing of others as an administrator of several nursing homes throughout Connecticut. James was an avid adventure goer; you would always find him and his daughter Ainsley outside or planning vacations with his family. James had a mind full of knowledge and would conversate for hours to anyone who would listen; as one nephew said, “I would just say hi to my uncle and it would turn into a three-hour lengthy conversation.” His intelligent and goofy self will forever be in our hearts and always loved, missed, and cherished. James is predeceased by his grandmother Esperanza Bagley, Sharon Murphy and grandfather Joe Murphy, Wilfredo Pinera, Cousin Virgin Alonzo, James Fox, and his brother-in-law Lorenzo Montgomery.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, June 30, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 1, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Church, (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 99 East Main St., Torrington, CT.  Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Peter Church.  Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
