Jack L. Stinson

December 27, 1928 — July 10, 2021

Barkhamsted, Connecticut

Our Dad, Our Grandfather, our friend, our hero,

Jack Stinson passed away on July 10, 2021, at the age of 92. His battle with serious medical issues in the last few years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile. Despite his illness Jack came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.

Jack met the love of his life, Barbara Clark, while serving in the United States Air Force, where he served for 22 years. Traveling through the years with his family he retired in Indiana.  After retiring from the Air Force he went to work at the Torrington Company in Indiana, eventually transferring to Torrington, Connecticut where he then retired with them.  He worked part time at Torrington Stop N Shop as a cashier. He enjoyed helping and visiting with the customers and sharing his warm smile with them.

Jack loved spending time with his family and traveling.  He attended St. Peter Church, where he was a volunteer for the Holy Name Society.   Country music was his favorite, along with watching old western movies.  He was a huge fan of Ladies UCONN basketball and Notre Dame Football.   You would always hear him humming in the morning to start the day with a smile. “Holy mackerel” is one of his favorite one liner that would always make you laugh.

Jack was a proud father of one son, Ed Stinson (Sally) of Mora, Minnesota, three daughters, Bytha Reichler of Torrington, Connecticut, Julie Thomsen (Scott) of Hastings, Nebraska, and Mindy Henry of Barkhamsted, Connecticut.  He was survived by his brother, Billy Stinson, of Sarasota, Florida. He has nine Grandchildren; Ken Sprague (Nickie),  Kirston Crowley,  Kayla Reichler, Nick Stinson, Mike Stinson,  Angie Lee(Nate),  Jenny Stinson(Chris), Abigail Henry, Thomas Henry, Madison Henry, Ashley Thomsen and Rachel Thomsen (Jordan), and six great Grandchildren that he was so proud of and bragged on often. His cheerful heart and bright smile will be missed by many. Flowers may be sent to the church.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 30, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Peter’s Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 99 East Main St., Torrington, CT 06790.  Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery with full military honors accorded.  There are no calling hours.
