George Carmen Cerruto

June 15, 1935 — November 3, 2021

Torrington, Connecticut

George Carmen Cerruto, age 86, died peacefully in his home on November 3, 2021, after brief illness.  George was born on June 15, 1935, in Torrington, CT, son of Rosario & Marianna (Silano) Cerruto.

George was a native of Torrington, CT where he met and married Marie (Balsamo) Cerruto, who proceeded him in death in 1995.  Married for 39 years, they raised and are survived by four beautiful children, Delene Weingart (Ernest), George Cerruto (Lori), Lynn Jurgensen (Kenneth), Brian Cerruto (Stacy).

George will be remembered as the hardest working man you’ll ever know, he never missed a day of work.  He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, partner and friend.  He served the city of Torrington for 34 years as a Firefighter, retiring at rank of  Fire Captain in 1992.  While working as a fireman he also worked as a Mason for several different contractors.    He recently retired, for the second time, in August 2021, from the Torrington Housing Authority.  George worked at the Housing Authority for 17 years as a painter,  This is where he met his current partner Janice Colangelo, who loved and cared for him for the past 17 years.  George was fortunate enough to have  two great loves in his life.  He and Janice enjoyed traveling to Notre Dame football games, the casino to watch the CT Sun Basketball, Las Vegas, and especially family vacations to Tropical Islands.

George’s (Papa) most precious joys in life were his grandchildren, Chelsea Cerruto-Morales (Michael), Kaylee Cerruto, Mariah Cerruto, Eric Weingart, Gina Weingart, Cameron Cerruto, Casey Cerruto, Carli Cerruto, Ana Jurgensen and his beloved Great Granddaughter Olivia Marie Morales.

You could find George caring for his lawn or watching sports, mostly Norte Dame football, the NY Mets,  Boston Celtics, or UCONN women’s basketball, but his favorite thing to do was watch his own grandchildren excel at their respective sports or enjoying his great granddaughter.

George was preceded in death by brother Raymond Cerruto, sisters Rafaela (Lena) McGrath, and Grace Cerruto. In addition to his children and grandchildren, he leaves his sister in law, Lucille Pergola along with a long list of nieces and nephews who he loved very much.

The family would like to thank all the Doctors and their staff for their dedication and excellent care of George over the past 3 months.
