Bobby Lee Gioscia

Bobby Lee Gioscia of Torrington, CT passed peacefully at the age of 91, on August 27, 2021, from natural causes.  Bobby was born on August 19, 1930, son of Michael and Hildred Lundgren Gioscia of the Bronx, New York.

Bobby attended DeWitt Clinton High School in the Bronx, received a BA Degree from University of Bridgeport, an MS Degree from Central Connecticut University, and a Sixth Year in Administration from the University of Hartford.

Bobby served in Korea in 1953 and 1954 in the US Army.  He was awarded several service medals and citations, including the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, and the United States Army Commendation Medal.

Bobby participated as a professional educator for over 40 years.  He served as a teacher and principal at various area schools, including the Har-Bur Middle School and the Harwinton Consolidated School.  In 1990 he was selected for leadership in the Connecticut State Administrations Fellows program.  He conducted workshop presentations and conferences nationally and in Toronto on Talented and Gifted Education.  He served as an Assistant Professor at Central Connecticut State University in the Education Department, supervising student teachers.

Bobby met and married his loving wife Ann Zele Gioscia from Torrington in July 1953.  In addition to his wife Ann, Bobby is survived by three children: Karen, widow of Patrick Ryan, Monroe, CT; Laurie, married to Thomas DeVivo, Kensington, CT; and Michael Gioscia, married to Linda Twiss Gioscia, in Massachusetts.  Bobby enjoyed spending time with his 4 grandchildren:  Eric Morholt; Tyler Morholt; Gianna Gioscia; and Ethan Gioscia; and his great grandson Michael Ryan Esteves.  He also leaves many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by 2 sisters: Marjorie Gioscia Gottheimer and Gloria Gioscia Kempner, his sister-in-law Virginia Zele Ferrucci, and son-in-law Patrick Ryan.

Bobby enjoyed family and gathering of friends, especially hosting the annual 4th of July picnics.  He was an avid reader of history, especially the Civil War, and visited many battlefields from the American Revolution and the Civil War.  He traveled extensively with his wife and friends throughout the US and Europe.  He enjoyed western dancing and skiing and loved music of all kinds.  Their home on North Road in Harwinton for over 54 years was the center of their love for each other, their family, and their many pets.  He was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees and the New York Giants.  He also authored and published two fiction mysteries while retired.  He was a lector and usher at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Harwinton and served as Chairman of the Bicentennial Committee in Harwinton.

Private funeral services have been entrusted to Cook Funeral Home.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend committal services where veteran’s final honors will be accorded on Friday, September 3, 2021, at 1:15 p.m. at Hillside Cemetery, 76 Walnut St., Torrington, CT 06790.
