Arlene Nielsen Obituary

Arlene (Sivec) Nielsen, 95, passed away after a brief illness on Jan 13, 2023 with family by her side.

Born in Bridgeport, CT to Alexander and Lena Sivec, Arlene was married to Victor C. Nielsen and together they had five children. Arlene is predeceased by her parents, brother (William), husband, and daughter Gail.

Arlene was a graduate of Bassick High School in Bridgeport and worked for many years at Bridgeport Hospital. A long-time resident of CT, she recently returned after living with her son and daughter-in-law in Stetson, Maine for the past two years. Before moving to Maine, Arlene was a resident of Templeton Farms in Kent, CT for 20 years where she made many dear friends and served as vice president/treasurer of the residents’ association. She was a talented artist who enjoyed sharing her painted projects with family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Glen (CiCi) Nielsen of Kittery, Maine; Dana (Susan) Nielsen of Stetson, Maine; Dawn (Larry) Menta of Prospect, CT; Lynn (Warren, deceased) Wood, Torrington, CT. Four grandchildren: Tait (Laura) Nielsen, Dane (Alexa) Nielsen; Lauren Menta; Kyle Menta. Six great-grandchildren: Braydon, Koen, Wilhelmina, Carter, Connor, Johnny.  

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 12:30 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT. 

The family suggests that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Diabetes Foundation.
