Shirley Ann Pedone

July 6, 1938 — December 22, 2025

Goshen, Connecticut

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Shirley (Robbins) Pedone on Tuesday December 22, 2025. Born in Torrington, Connecticut, on July 6, 1938, she passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was a fixture in Goshen, volunteering her time and skills in town and church gardens where she shared her love and talent as a gardener. She was an avid quilter, creating many works of art for family and loved ones, and helped create the Goshen Star Quilters Quilts of Honor program which honored veterans and active military members with homemade quilts. She was a member of the Goshen Agricultural Society, founding member of the Goshen Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, past president and life member of the Goshen Garden Club, Enjoyed her friends at the Monday Night Group, member of the Girl Scouts of America the Drift Skippers Snowmobile Club of Goshen.

Shriley was immensely proud of her family, home, and gardens which she meticulously tended to. Her untiring volunteerism was publicly recognized when she was honored with the Goshen Community Service award in 2023.

She began her life modestly in Winchester Center adjacent to the Weigold family farm, schooled in a one room schoolhouse until 8th grade and then graduated from Torrington High School. As a young bride she moved to Goshen with her devoted husband Joe of 67 years where they built two homes together and raised their two daughters.

She is predeceased by her parents John “Red” Robbins and Dorothy (Weigold) Robbins of Winchester Center/Torrington. Shirley leaves to honor and cherish her memory her husband Joseph Pedone, two daughters Robin Pedone of Torrington and Darlene Stansfield and her husband Thomas of Goshen, two grandchildren Katherine Stansfield and her husband Connor Stack of Torrington and William Stansfield of Fort Collins Colorado, her siblings William Robbins of Corvalis, Oregon and his wife Karla, Irving Robbins of Cabot Vermont and Patricia Bodmer of Hilton Head South Carolina as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives of all ages and dozens and dozens of close friends including members of the Goshen Garden Club, the Monday Night Group, and the Goshen Quilters.

The family would like to sincerely thank Goshen Community Care and Hartford Health Care Hospice team for their immense support, compassion and dignified care they provided to Shirley and her family during her illness. The outpouring of love from the entire community and from her extended family has been an immense comfort. We gain strength in knowing that the gardens of heaven will be expertly tended and her father in heaven warmed by a quilt, loving stitched by her hands.

In lieu of flowers, she would have been very pleased if donations in her name were made to the Goshen Garden Club, P. O. Box 342, Goshen, CT for their Memorial Garden Fund, the Goshen Community Care, the Goshen Fire Company or any charitable organization you feel exemplifies her volunteering spirit.
