The patriarch of our family, Ronald J. Canciani, 85, of Harwinton, CT, peacefully passed away and met his Lord Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Lois (Anderson) Canciani for 62 years.
Ron was born November 26, 1935, in Torrington, CT, the son of the late Joseph and Armida (Bacconi) Canciani. He owned and operated Big Value Supermarket for 44 years. He enjoyed cooking and volunteered countless hours preparing meals for the less fortunate in Torrington. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren
In addition to his wife Lois, he is survived by two sons, Ronald Canciani, Jr., and Stephen Canciani both of Torrington; one sister, Judy Cullison of West Hartford, CT; four grandchildren, Kristina (DavidJohn) Douglas, Aaron (Calah) Canciani, Karen (Eric) Normandin, Stephen Canciani, seven great grandchildren, one niece and one nephew.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT 06790. Burial will be private. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bakerville United Methodist Church, 1087 Litchfield Turnpike, New Hartford, CT 06057 followed by a luncheon outdoors at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Joseph’s House, Inc., 116 Water St., Torrington, CT 06790 or to the Torrington Soup Kitchen, 220 Prospect St., Torrington, CT 06790.
