Our beloved Robyn Ann Macsata of Torrington, CT unexpectedly passed at her home at the young age of 50 in Washington, DC on May 21, 2021. Robyn was a highly accomplished vascular surgeon, teacher, mentor and a dear friend to many. Her infectious laughter and love of life brought joy to everyone around her, putting smiles on their faces. While her life ended too soon, her legacy will carry on for generations to come.
Robyn was the daughter of the late Harold J. Macsata and Jeannette (Litke) Macsata. She is survived by her mother Jeannette, her brother William Macsata, his wife Victoria and their children Dylan, Brandon, Brayden and Brianna; and her faithful four-legged companion Ruby.
Robyn graduated from Torrington High School in 1988. After high school, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University. She went on to earn her Medical Doctorate from Temple University and completed her general surgery residency at Medstar Washington Hospital Center. She continued her education specializing in vascular surgery at Georgetown University/Medstar Washington Hospital Center. During 11 years at the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Washington DC, she became the Chief of Vascular Surgery and Program Director for the Medstar Georgetown University Hospital/ Washington Hospital Center vascular surgery residency and fellowship program. Most recently, Robyn was Chief of Vascular Surgery and Associate Professor of Surgery at George Washington University Hospital where she joined her mentor Dr. Anton Sidawy.
Above all, Robyn was a dearly loved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and godmother to many. She often returned to Torrington to visit her mother, cousins, and best friend Tracy Maniccia. Robyn saw the good in everyone and inspired her family, friends, peers, and proteges to be the best they could be. Her adventurous spirit lived life to the fullest and she never missed an opportunity to travel with her friends, McDonna Hinds and Eileen Barrett and many other friends and family. Robyn’s memory will remain in our hearts forever.
