Richard J. Ohotnicky, 86, of Torrington CT, peacefully passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara (Bruno) Ohotnicky whom he married in 1963.
Richard was born December 18, 1937, in Torrington, and is the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Roman) Ohotnicky. Richard was a 1955 graduate of Torrington High School and attended the University of Hartford. A long-time employee of the Torrington Company, he also worked for Groz-Beckert, White Flower Farm, and eventually retired from Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. In addition to service for his country and community (U.S. Army National Guard Reserve and local government serving on the Board of Public Safety), Richard was dedicated to serving his church as a longtime parishioner of Sacred Heart and St. Francis of Assisi (St. John Paul the Great). An avid reader and gardener, Richard enjoyed being outdoors, listening to classical music, and his family vacations to Narragansett, RI. A gentle soul with a quick and dry sense of humor, Richard loved spending time with his family and friends.
A loving and dedicated family man, Richard is survived by his children Peter Ohotnicky, David Ohotnicky, and Susan Ohotnicky Ammerman of Torrington; John Ohotnicky and his wife Julianne of Northampton, MA. Richard was the proud “Papa” to grandchildren Laura Ammerman and Matthew Ammerman of Torrington, Samuel Ohotnicky and his wife Rachel of West Hartford, and Anna Ohotnicky of Brighton, MA.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish), 160 Main St., Torrington, CT. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Francis Church. Burial will be private. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT.
