Pearl Wey

July 3, 1929 — June 19, 2025

Harwinton, Connecticut

Pearl I (Phelps) Wey 95, of Harwinton, CT, peacefully passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at Shady Oaks Assisted Living in Bristol, CT. She was the wife of the late John Wey for 59 years.

Pearl was born July 3, 1929, in Torrington, CT, the daughter of the late Frederick and Mary (McCann) Phelps. Pearl grew up in Torrington and Burrville, CT before getting married and settling down in Harwinton, CT. She retired from the Torrington Company after working for several years as an assembly specialist and was fortunate to have worked alongside many of her family members during her tenure.

Pearl enjoyed sitting on her porch for hours watching the trees and listening to the birds, going to McDonald’s on Saturday afternoons for a decaf coffee and a muffin, and shopping to buy whatever gift she thought someone might like. She enjoyed the company of her family and rarely said no to an opportunity to go out, even if it was just for a brief car ride. She was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed attending antique car shows and flea markets. Pearl’s love for animals was evident in the number of strays who quickly became part of the family. Her favorite pastimes included making crafts with her children, enjoying time at the cottage on Highland Lake, skating at the Pavilion, playing the accordion, bowling, water skiing, and traveling to Ogunquit, ME.

She is survived by her three children; Theresa Ponte (William) of Harwinton, CT, Edward Wey of Waxhaw, NC and Barbara Siani (Kevin) of Plainville, CT; one brother-in-law, Edward Wey (Ingrid) of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren, Frank Albreada-Ponte, William Ponte, Emily Wey, Brandon Wey, John Siani and Eric Siani; two great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers Frederick, David, and William Phelps and her sister Emma Cuozzo.

Pearl’s family would like to extend a special thank you to: Shady Oaks Assisted Living for providing outstanding care, compassion, dedication, and love to both Pearl and her family during the past 2 years; and to AccentCare for their support, care and commitment throughout the past 3 years.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 7, 2025, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. Peter’s Church, (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 99 E Main St., Torrington, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery, Torrington, CT.
