Paul Hulteen Scherbner, 86, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away on April 10, 2025, at Wolcott Hall Nursing Center, Torrington, CT, with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Sally (Cole) Scherbner for 61years. Paul lived a vibrant life dedicated to his family, friends, and community.
Paul was born March 5, 1939, in Mt. Vernon, NY, the beloved son of the late Paul and Esther (Hulteen) Scherbner. A skilled toolmaker and machinist by trade, he spent his career in operational leadership positions, winning awards for his designs and ended his career as co-owner of Vertex Tooling and Engineering. A devoted husband, brother, father and grandfather, Paul valued time with friends and family spending time by the ocean in Rhode Island. He had a big heart for contribution and gave his resources to many organizations and much of his time to the Boy Scouts of America, where he received the distinguished Silver Beaver Award. He was also an active member of the First United Methodist Church and the Torrington Elks Lodge #372.
In addition to his wife Sally, Paul’s family cherished his presence in their lives and is survived by three children: Pamella Scherbner of Torrington, CT; Margaret Boyer and her husband Stephen of Wernersville, PA; Vincent Scherbner and his wife Gina of Harwinton, CT; and sister Mary-Ellen Foster and husband Jon of New Milford, CT. Also surviving are four grandchildren Mitchell, Julia, Jackie and Ethan.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St, Torrington, CT 06790 Burial will be private.
