Mary Romano DeAnzeris

December 3, 1926 — April 28, 2025

Torrington, Connecticut

Mary (Romano) DeAnzeris, 98, of Torrington, beloved wife of the late Attilio DeAnzeris, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 28, 2025, at home surrounded by her loving and devoted family.

Mary was born in Winsted on December 3, 1926, daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (LaMagna) Romano.

Mary grew up in Winsted, Connecticut, and attended local schools. She was employed for many years as an electronic assembler at Waring Products and Altec, Inc.

A woman of deep faith, Mary was very involved at St. John Paul the Great Parish, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister, Sacristan, member of the Prayer Shawl Ministry, and president and treasurer of the St. Frances Cabrini Society. Because of her hospitable nature and spirit of generosity, Mary could be found in the kitchen at Lourdes Shrine, making homemade soups and sandwiches for the pilgrims who visited the grotto.

Mary was most at home in her own kitchen, where she loved cooking and baking for family and friends. All were welcomed at the table and never left hungry. Some of her favorite things to make were homemade bread, pizza, pizzelles, and fresh sauce from the tomatoes she grew in her garden. She also enjoyed preparing whatever Tillio brought home from his hunting and fishing adventures. When she wasn’t in the kitchen, Mary could often be found outside tending to her beautiful flower gardens.

Mary cherished spending time with her many close friends and neighbors, who brought her great joy throughout her life. She was also an avid fan of the UConn Huskies and loved cheering them on. Her infectious smile was unforgettable.

To all who knew her, she was lovingly known as “Gram”—a title that extended far beyond her family to include anyone fortunate enough to cross her path. Her spirit of generosity, strength, and compassion leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and kindness that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. There will be a deep and lasting void in our hearts that can never be filled.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Ann DiFiglia of East Haddam and Patricia Cerruto (Peter) of New Hartford; her five grandchildren, Kevin Sultaire, Jeffrey Sultaire (Carey), Julie Cerruto Dombrowski (Philip), Peter Cerruto (Samantha), and Mary Cerruto Vasile (Nicholas); and her great-grandchildren, Anthony Sultaire, Lucas and Owen Cerruto, Sophie Vasile, and Joseph, Kaylin and Camaryn Dombrowski as well as several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and her husband, Mary was predeceased by her sisters, Lucy Iacino, Josephine Romano, twin sister Rose Michalek, Serena Mitchell and Ernestine Romano; her brothers, Joseph Romano and Anthony Romano; her son-in-law, Frank DiFiglia; and her niece, SallyAnn Iacino Skinner.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Our Lady of Hope Parish at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 78 Litchfield Rd, Harwinton. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery, Torrington. Calling hours will be Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield Street, Torrington.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Office of Radio and Television, 15 Peach Orchard Road, Prospect, Connecticut 06712, as Mary found great comfort in participating in daily Mass. The family would like to thank Hospice VNA and Growing Hearts Caregivers LLC for their great care and support.
