Marie (Zele) Fantozzi, a lifetime resident of Torrington, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on July 4th at Keystone Place at Newbury Brook, a local assisted living facility, at the age of 101. Born on November 24, 1922, to Leona (LaTulipe) and Leon Zele, she was the second of five children. She attended St. Francis School and Torrington High School and went on to attend Bryant College in Providence, Rhode Island, where she earned a diploma in Secretarial Science. During World War II, Marie volunteered as a nurses’ aid at Charlotte Hungerford Community Hospital.
After the war, Marie married her high school sweetheart, Frank Fantozzi. She worked as a secretary for several years before becoming a devoted mother of two children. She was an active member of the Mother’s Club of Saint Francis, as well as The Torrington Country Club, where she and her husband enjoyed golf and socialized with their Torrington friends for many years. During this time, they also traveled extensively with friends and family. After Frank retired, the couple divided their time between Jupiter Island in Florida and Torrington.
Marie is survived by two children, Thomas Fantozzi of Torrington and Diane Abrams of Larchmont, New York, and a granddaughter, Tasia White, of Danbury, Connecticut, as well as several nieces and nephews. Her husband passed away in 2019. A private funeral service will take place at Cook Funeral Home.
