Margaret (Bradley) Barber

May 28, 1918 — November 14, 2016

Margaret (Bradley) Barber, 98, of Harwinton, CT, passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 14, 2016 and "touched the face of God". She was the beloved wife of the late Charles Barber of Harwinton for 41 years. Born on May 28th, 1918 in Beacon Falls, CT, Margaret was the much loved daughter of F. Theron Bradley and Miriam (Croft) Bradley. When Margaret was a young girl, and after her brother “Bud” had been born, the family moved to the Chicago area. They lived in Rogers Park and Norwood Park, IL. After graduating from High School, Margaret worked in Chicago for the Pinsky Rug Corp. She re-located to Connecticut and lived in Thomaston, CT as well as part time at her country home in Plymouth, New Hampshire. She settled permanently in Harwinton which she grew to love, and later married local postman and pilot “Charlie” Barber. Margaret worked in The Marleigh Shop in Litchfield for many years as well as caring for her aging parents, aunt and husband.

Margaret was faithfully devoted to her family and many friends, as well as pen pals. She was an avid reader of non-fiction and poetry, gifted storyteller, and prolific letter writer. Her poodle Holy was one of her greatest delights. As a volunteer at the T.A. Hungerford Museum, Margaret was skillful at putting together historical displays. In addition, she enjoyed visiting historic places and loved flying with Charlie as he piloted their Cessna out of Johnnycake Airport in Harwinton.

Margaret will be greatly missed by her dear brother, Frank “Bud” Bradley, of Presque Isle, WI; her many nieces and nephews; her cousin Shelley Croft of Waterbury, CT. In addition to her husband Charles Barber and her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her uncle James Croft, her aunt Margaret Croft, and her nephew Gary Bradley. Margaret also leaves many close friends who treasured her friendship.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington.  Burial will be private.
