Lucille D. Merati, 90, formerly a member of the Torrington community, passed away peacefully on May 3, 2026, at Westfield Gardens Nursing and Rehabilitation in Westfield, Massachusetts. Born on May 13, 1935, in Torrington, Connecticut, she was the wife of the late James Merati, and the daughter of the late John and Bertha (LeJeune) Dusi. Lucille began her distinguished career as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with Bristol Hospital, where her compassionate care made a lasting impact. She later continued her vocation working with the practices of Dr. Finn and Dr. McKenna until her retirement. Her commitment to the well-being of her patients was marked by professionalism and genuine warmth, qualities that endeared her to colleagues and those she served.
Lucille was an avid reader and a passionate cook, often expressing her love through meals shared with family. Her home was a gathering place filled with kindness and laughter, a reflection of her love.
Lucille is survived by her son, James J. Merati and his fiancée Gail Bostock of Westfield, Massachusetts. She took great pride in her grandchildren: Jessica Nangle and her husband Dan, James N. Merati, Michael and his wife Chrissy Durgin, and Amy Durgin. The joy she found in family life extended to her great-grandchildren Blake, Danny, Haley, Marissa, and Tyler, who brought immeasurable happiness to her later years.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her brothers Joseph Dusi, Roger Dusi, and John Dusi, as well as her sisters Eleanor Richard and Marie Maughmer.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield Street, Torrington, CT for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Church, (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 160 Main Street, Torrington, CT, followed by burial at St. Francis New Cemetery, 863 South Main Street, Torrington. Relatives and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home on Tuesday morning.
