Lois Canciani, 88, of Harwinton, CT, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2025, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born on August 25, 1937, in New Britain, CT, daughter of Maynard and Pearl Anderson. Lois lived a life rooted in faith, service, and love. She dedicated 17 years as a teacher at East School in Torrington.
She shared 60 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Ronald, who passed away in 2021. Together, they enjoyed traveling and built a life filled with love, laughter, and family.
Lois gave generously of her time as a volunteer with Kairos Prison Ministry, Literacy volunteers, Charlotte Hungerford Auxiliary and local schools as a tutor. Her kindness, faith, and compassion touched many lives.
A woman of creativity, she enjoyed painting, photography, and scrapbooking, capturing beauty and preserving memories with a loving eye.
Above all, Lois treasured her family. She was a devoted mother to Ron (CeCe) and Stephen (Sue), both from Torrington. She was a loving grandmother to —Kristina Douglas, Aaron Canciani, Karen Normandin, and Steve Canciani—and adored her 11 great-grandchildren, who brought her great joy. Her legacy of love, faith, and generosity will live on in their hearts.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Judy Cullison, a niece Paula Talbot and a nephew Shelby Cullison.
She was a member of Bakerville Methodist Church in New Hartford for over 50 years.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on October 4, 2025, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. at Bakerville Methodist Church, 1086 Litchfield Turnpike, New Hartford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bakerville Methodist Church.
