John J. Sorvillo, 76, of Naples, FL, peacefully passed away Monday, December 17, 2018 surrounded by his adoring wife and children. Born in Torrington, CT, the son of late Gilda and Joseph Sorvillo, John grew up and lived in Torrington, CT for most of his life before recently relocating to Naples, FL with his loving wife of 55 years, Marlene Petrosky Sorvillo.
A graduate of Oliver Wolcott Technical High School, John established a professional career in manufacturing and spent his years working at his own design business, Hamilton Standard and Casco Products. While at Casco, John executed and operated a corporate expansion in Torino, Italy. John was a long time parishioner at St. Peter Church in Torrington, CT and also a member of the Torrington Elks Lodge #372, Foresters of America and St. Peter Church Holy Name Society.
John was an avid golfer who achieved the ultimate golf goal of a hole-in-one, was a member of Greenwoods Country Club and recently enjoyed hitting the links frequently at his new residence in Florida. When not golfing, John was the quintessential Christmas decorator, often winning awards for his annual holiday yard displays in Torrington.
Adoring husband, father and grandfather, John always made his family his top priority.
John is survived by his four children, Charlene O’Connell and her husband Kevin of Fairfield, CT, Debra Gallagher and her husband Matthew of Medfield, MA, Marcia Thomas and her husband Brian of Chatham, NJ and Michael Sorvillo and his wife Karen of Bedford, NH; six grandchildren, Madison and Paige O’Connell, Olivia Gallagher, Brooke and Connor Thomas and Andrew Sorvillo; two brothers, Robert Sorvillo and wife Denise of Torrington, CT and James Sorvillo and wife Pam of Southington, CT; and nieces Andrea Zaccherio and Deanna Sorvillo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Church, (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 107 E Main Street, Torrington, CT at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2018. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Warner Theatre, 68 Main Street, Torrington, CT 06790 or the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 230 East Ohio Street, Suite 500, Chicago, IL 60611.
