James S. Merati, 82, of Torrington, CT, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017, surrounded by his family, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Lucille (Dusi) Merati for 60 years.
Jim was born August 17, 1934, in Torrington, CT, the son of the late James J. and Eva (Frauenhofer) Merati. He served his country with the US Navy. He was employed by the City of Waterbury with Reservoir Maintenance Department. He was a longtime member of the Torrington Elks Club.
In addition to his wife Lucille, he is survived by one son, James J. Merati and his companion Gail Bostock of Westfield, MA; one brother, Anthony Merati (Patricia) of Torrington; two sisters, Claire Zaragoza (Rafael) of Dover, DE, Catherine Panicci (Richard) of Hanover, MA; two grandchildren, Jessica Nangle and her husband Daniel and James N. Merati, all of Westfield, MA; a sister-in-law, Joanne Merati of Torrington, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard Merati and Michael Merati.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 160 Main St., Torrington. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Francis of Assisi Church. Burial will follow at St. Francis New Cemetery with full military honors accorded. Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 1, 2017, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
