Genevieve J. Gangi

Genevieve J. Gangi, 91, of Torrington, CT and Wakefield, RI, passed away peacefully after a short illness on December 27, 2021.

Genevieve was known to her friends as Gen and her family as Gigi, and she will be greatly missed by them. Always a social butterfly, Gen loved volunteering in local politics and working in her local community. She was born in Torrington on February 28th, 1930, and lived there most of her life. Gen married Gaetan Gangi of Winsted, CT in October of 1952 and they raised their family in Canaan, CT. After her husband passed in 1986, Genevieve moved back to Torrington and lived there until 3 months prior to her death, when she moved in an assisted living in Wakefield, RI to be closer to her two daughters.

Genevieve leaves behind three surviving children, her daughter and son-in-law Geanne and Jon Griffith of Newport, RI, her son Gregg Gangi of Florida, and her daughter Gwen Gangi of Pawcatuck, CT. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and some great grandnieces and nephews as well. Celebrations will not be the same without the family matriarch at hand.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington. Relatives and friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home. Burial will be private.
