Egidio J. Mainella, 99, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 6, 2026, at the home of his son John in Plaistow NH. He was the husband of the late Eleanor (Coppa) Mainella.
Egidio was born May 14, 1927, in Torrington, CT, the son of the late John and Mary (Pasquarelli) Mainella. He served his country with the U.S. Navy during the European Theatre, honorably discharged on July 3, 1946. He owned and operated Elm Sheet Metal and Heating with his brother Domenic until their retirement. He was a member of UNICO, he was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, 3rd Degree, and a longtime member of the St. Peter Holy Name Society. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at “The Shack” in Norfolk.
He is survived by three children, a son John Mainella and daughter-in-law Trish of Plaistow, NH; two daughters, Linda Chave and son-in-law Russell of Danbury, CT, Theresa Mainella of Long Island, NY; a brother Domenic Mainella of Torrington, CT; four grandchildren, Nicholas (Laura) Mainella, Colin (Valeria) Mainella, Russell E. Chave, Noelle Chave; two great grandchildren, Harvey Tait, Emma Mainella; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents and his wife Eleanor, he was preceded in death by a sister-in-law Marie Mainella.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT to St. Peter Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish), 99 East Main St., Torrington, CT, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Francis New Cemetery, Torrington, CT with full military honors accorded. Relatives and friends may call on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home.
