Edward Steven Rudek, Sr., 94, of Harwinton, CT, peacefully passed away at home on September 18, 2019.  He was the husband of 70 years to the late Norean Rudek, who preceded him in death on March 12, 2019.

Edward was born July 25, 1925, in Newington, CT, son of the late John and Victoria (Kuzera) Rudek.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in both World War II and the Korean war.  Among the awards and decorations he received upon his honorable discharge were the American Theater Campaign Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal and two purple hearts.  After serving his country, he returned home to Newington where he and his wife built a home, raised their family, and resided until 1971.  He also served the Newington community as a Police Officer and volunteer fireman.

Edward was a machinist by trade, however, he served his apprenticeship as a Mason Contractor, after which he partnered with Frank Marchetti to form the Rudek and Marchetti, Corp.

He was an avid Red Sox fan, and enjoyed watching the UCONN Women’s Basketball games.  Unselfish by his kind nature, he helped everyone he could, without asking for anything in return, his entire life.

He is survived by three sons, Edward Rudek, Jr. and his wife Laurie, John Rudek and his wife Lynne, Ron Rudek and his wife Rachel Bingham, all of Harwinton; his sisters, Rose and Mary Rudek and Genevieve and her husband Al Ginn, all of Newington; grandchildren, Jennifer Rudek, Edward Rudek, III and his wife Yvonne, Johnnie and Michael Rudek, Kristopher Winalski, Amanda Winalski Reed and her husband Elliot, and great grandchildren, Steven and David Rudek, as well as several nieces and nephews.
