Daniel Rinaldi, Jr.

Daniel Rinaldi, Jr., of Torrington, CT, a beloved husband, Dad, Papa, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026, surrounded by the people he loved most.  His passing leaves an immeasurable hole in the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.  While we grieve his loss, we are grateful for the lifetime of love, laughter, memories and family traditions he gave us.

Daniel was the devoted husband of 64 years to his beloved wife, Rosemary "Rose" (Cerruto) Rinaldi.  Together, they built a life filled with love, family, and countless memories.  He was the loving father of Lucy "LuLu" Rinaldi Field and her husband, John Field, Jr., and MaryAnn Rinaldi Messenger and her husband. Eugene Messenger.  He was the proud Papa of Rosie Field and Aaron Lanthier; Felicia Field Hiller and Daniel Hiller; Danny Messenger and Monica Messenger; and Megan Messenger and Paul Holtman.  He was also a loving and caring great-grandfather to Brantley, Eli, Sawyer, Aaron Jr., and his future great-grandchild, baby Maverick.

To know Daniel was to know a truly gentle soul.  He had a kindness that came naturally to him and a way of making the people around him feel safe, loved, and cared for.  He never needed recognition for the things he did for others.  Helping, teaching, fixing, encouraging, and simply being there were just a part of who he was.  His life was a quiet example of compassion, generosity, and unconditional love. 

Daniel was an Ace Mechanic, a skill and passion that became such an important part of who he was.  He was a natural when it came to working with his hands and had a gift for understanding how things worked and how to make them right again.  He took pride in sharing what he knew, teaching others, and helping anyone who needed him.  He last worked at Rocket Motor Sports in Torrington, where his knowledge, dedication, and love for his craft were a reflection of the man he had always been - dependable, hardworking, and always willing to lend a hand.

Daniel had a wonderful sense of humor and a special way of making people smile.  He will forever be remembered for his peace sign, his thumbs-up, his playful whistle that was guaranteed to startle the kids and make them laugh, and his favorite words, "Ace it."  Those little expressions and gestures became part of the language of his love, and they are memories his family will carry with them forever.

Some of Daniel's happiest moments were the simplest ones - being surrounded by his family.  He treasured Sunday dinners, working on cars, teaching others what he knew, and fixing just about anything that needed fixing.  He loved car shows, especially those in Lake George, fishing, playing softball, telling jokes, bowling, and sharing cookie snacks.  But what mattered most to him was never really the activity itself.  It was being together. 

Daniel's greatest joy was his family.  His wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of his world, and his love for them could be felt in everything he did.  He created a lifetime of traditions and memories that will continue to bring his family together for generations to come.

And while our hearts are broken to say goodbye, we find comfort knowing that Daniel is not alone.  We believe he is being welcomed with open arms in Heaven by his beloved daughter, RoseMary, and his mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Rinaldi, Sr.  Perhaps the greatest comfort is imagining him once again surrounded by those he loved and missed, free from pain and at peace. 

Although we wish we could have more time with him, we will forever be grateful for the time we were given.  We will miss his voice, his laughter, his gentle smile, his sense of humor, and those familiar gestures that could say so much without a single word.  Most of all, we will miss simply having him here.

Family and friends are invited to gather and honor Daniel's memory on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter Church (St. John Paul the Great Parish) 99 East Main St., Torrington, CT 06790.  Burial will follow at St. Francis New Cemetery.

Daniel may no longer be sitting at the Sunday dinner table, standing beside us at a car show, working on a car, fixing something that needs fixing, or giving us that families thumbs-up and telling us to "Ace it".  But his love will remain in every family tradition, every story, every laugh, and every memory he helped create.

His life was a gift.  His love was his legacy.  And he will be loved and missed for generations to come.
