Angiolina Maria “Angie” Lombardi, 92, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of Giovanni “John” Lombardi for 71 years.
Angie was born on May 5, 1928, in Villa San Michele, Province of Isernia, Italy, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Vincenza Lombardi. After working at Commercial Sewing for many years, she was later employed by Bess Eaton Donuts as a baker, from where she retired in 1994.
She was devoutly religious and was a member of the St. Peter Holy Rosary Society, the St. Anne Society, and was a communicant of St. Peter Church. Angie was a generous, selfless, and loving woman who touched the lives of everyone. She was endlessly devoted to her entire family and friends. Her loved ones will always remember her exceptional cooking, empathy, wisdom, and sense of humor.
In addition to her husband, Giovanni, she is survived by three children: Luciana “Lucy” Guildford of Harwinton, CT; Salvatore "Sal" Lombardi and his wife Sharon of Daytona Beach, FL; John Lombardi of Torrington, CT; one brother, Adelmo Lombardi of Toronto, Canada; four grandchildren: Michelle DePalma and her husband Tom, Steven Lombardi and his wife Lindsay, Jennifer Lombardi, and Jonathan Lombardi; seven great-grandchildren: Rick Bell, Jack DePalma, Jayden Lombardi, Thomas DePalma, Jacob DePalma, Angiolina Lombardi, Lillianna DePalma, as well as many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers: infant Pasquale Lombardi, Luciano Lombardi, Liberato Lombardi, Diletto Lombardi and four sisters: Maria Giuseppa Iacovetta, Melinda Melaragno, Leontina Calabrese, and Florinda Maria Lombardi.
The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to all the doctors, nurses, and home care professionals who treated her with dignity and loving care.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2020, with the cortege leaving at 10:30 a.m. from Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, to St. John Paul the Great Parish (St. Peter Church) for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. which will also be streamed live on the St. John Paul the Great Parish Facebook page.
Entombment will follow at the mausoleum at New St. Francis Cemetery, S. Main St., Torrington. Relatives and friends may call from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home on Thursday morning. All relatives and friends attending must follow CDC recommendations for COVID prevention -- social distancing and wear protective face masks.
